Combined Fund Drive Event Report

On November 29, 2016 the Washington State Combined Fund Drive and the Office of the Secretary of State held a Carnival-themed Giving Day event at the State Capitol Library Lunchroom. The Autism Society of Washington was one of two non-profit organizations that were invited to this event; the other non-profit was Parent2Parent of Thurston County. We each had a table to display information about our organizations. The representative from the Parent2Parent group and I each spoke about our organizations to the event attendees.
It was a fun event to kick of this Day of Giving and next year’s Combined Fund Drive. The CFD gives State Employees an opportunity to support non-profit organizations of their choice. I was informed that the money raised at this kickoff event will be divided between the Autism Society of Washington and Parent 2 Parent of Thurston County.
Activities included silent and live auctions for various donated items for SOS/State Workers to purchase. Attendees could purchase tickets for a dollar each, which could be used to purchase children’s artwork. Each piece of artwork was numbered. If the purchaser’s artwork had an odd number they could then choose from various items including food, candles, and drink cups. There were games of chance such as Plink and Wheel of Fortune with similar items available for prizes for the winners. It was my pleasure to represent the Autism Society at this event and to educate potential donors about Autism and the Autism Society of Washington.
